I spit this verse on a Zoom Call for Aja Monet during a Free Palestine event.After the call I said man I need to turn that into something I can play back. So Chris Mathews cued up this beat and we banged it out. I don't like writing lyrics too far ahead of the moment they'll be recorded. So this worked out in my favor, bars were maybe two hours old at the point where we recorded them. I added a bunch new lyrics to give it a certain type of intentionality. This is standardized hip hop to me. Taking a dry loop and making it a masterful musical moment. Also just talking my real life.
